Bada Dev in Gond mythology is known as the ultimate creator. The legend goes, that the seven Gond brothers, once toiled away, sowing jute in a field. One day, they saw a young man on a horse, galloping through the field. The hooves of the horse trampled over the saplings, destroying them. Six of the brothers chased after the man, who escaped them by disappearing into a Saja Tree. The brothers now realising this man was Bada Dev, offered prayers and sacrifices to appease him but to no avail. The youngest brother, then crafted a one-stringed instrument out of wood and began serenading. As his resounding voice filled the woods, Bada Dev, pleased with the notes, revealed himself in the trunk of the Saja Tree. He blessed the youngest brother and named the instrument, Bana and promised that each time he sang, Bada Dev would make an appearance. In this way, the first Pardhan was created. Bada Dev has been depicted holding spears, by artists like Jangarh Singh Shyam and Durgabai. Parsapen, in shape of a trident, represents primordial universal divinity. It is symbolic of intellectuality, physicality and mentality. The vertical ray going through the orb is Sallā (masculine power) and the orb is Gāṅgarā (feminine power). The flame on the top represents the light of creation from the interaction of Sallā and Gāṅgarā.
