Lingering gazes and stolen moments
by Sathwika Katari

It was womb quiet by the stream. The mist faded and the sunlight filtered in, painting the scenery around them in a soft tale of vivid blues and greens. The breeze that ruffled the trees finally settled down and everything around them came to a standstill. The only sound being the rapid beating of their hearts and the gentle fluttering of their eyelashes.

Perched on the lush green of the land, Anya was beautiful. Deep curves, a lilting voice, and velveteen grace. The neon of the sky cast a pink and yellow glow over her skin and Meera’s gaze lingered on the way the colors blended on Anya’s skin. Like delicate still life.

And when Anya glanced at her, residual softness in her eyes, Meera’s stomach twisted and her mouth ran dry. Everything seemed to expand tenfold, the colors seemed brighter and the birds in her head sang louder. She probably should be worried about a hundred different things right about now. Things like the forgotten pail of water, or what society would think.

But in that moment? It was just her and her.
