Shared happiness

by Demelsa Haughton

The doorbell rang.

“Who could it be?” She thought to herself while she lazily got up from a sofa.

She hardly had any visitors since she had moved to this new apartment three years ago. So it was even more surprising to hear the bell ring in these unusual times when nobody paid a visit to anybody.

It was her neighbour. They had exchanged smiles only a couple of times in the last three years. And now she stood there with a covered bowl in her hand and a broad smile on her face.

“Red Velvet cake.” The neighbour declared as she uncovered the bowl.

Her eyes lit up. “It’s my favourite.” She thought to herself. “Did she know? How?”

“It’s my favourite, you know. So thought will try this one first. Can you tell me how it has turned out?” The neighbour dispelled the doubts.

She quickly got a knife, cut a small piece and put it in her mouth.

Ummm. It just melted in her mouth. One of the best ones she had ever had.

She cut two pieces this time, put one in her neighbour’s mouth and had one herself.

It tasted sweeter this time.
