The colour of chillies
Italian paint. Tie dye techniques learned at that workshop in New York. A smidgen of Chanel’s ‘Pirate’ a true blue femme fatale red.
It wasn’t working. The colour just wasn’t right. The artist stormed out of her penthouse, ready to hail a cab, pick up her matcha latte and go buy even more premium paints on the way home.
That’s when it struck the corner of her eye. The colour. THAT colour, that had been evading, teasing and tormenting her. It came so easily to the other woman: a middle-class home cook wearing a saree that matched the chillies she was chopping.
Dried chillies chopped with love were the colour she needed. The real art had been right at her doorstep. She swallowed her ego, and her credit card breathed a sigh of relief as she made her way over to observe the most incredible muse she’d seen in months.
