There is no silence here. Never has been. 
The walls are still simmering with the 
conversations they never got to hear the
end of, and the floors are sticky with all 
the things left unsaid. The low, constant hum 
of life has woven itself through the windows 
and they blur everything trying to shine through. 
Even in the quietest hours, the shlick of wet 
cloth against nylon ropes slices past the 
darkness. No one is ever asleep when 
there is so much to survive, so much to do. 
The clothes flutter in the morning, flags of 
surrender and many more of joy. Sometimes 
it's hard to tell between them. Rarely, they hang, 
limp and wet, and drip down their stories. If you 
stand still, you can catch them before they flit away.
